HIKING TRAILS:
Trail 2: Old State House Quarry

Hiking Trails:
Trail 1 | Trail 2 | Trail 3 | Trail 4 | Trail 5 | Trail 6 | Trail 7 | Trail 8 | Trail 9 | Trail 10

ALERT: This trail received significant damage from a tornado in March 2023 and remains closed. Do not go past the closure signs.

Taking the Quarry Loop Trail off of Trail 2 leads you past the Old State House Quarry. Stone for the present state capitol building was quarried at the here from about 1878 to 1880. The quarry ceased operation due to difficulties in transporting the stone across White River to the railroad lines.

The limestone found in the quarry is Salem Limestone. For more information on these topics check out the park history or park geology pages.
